A wealthy and beautiful woman is found dead in her office. The crime scene looks like an S&M game: wearing sexy lingerie and a blond wig, the woman is tied up with a red silk rope, and hanging from a noose tied to the scaffolding. The story is scooped by crime reporter Marco Corvino who besides following the official police case, begins his own investigation of the underground world of extreme sex. As always, Massimo Lugli draws from real events for one of his books. Just one year ago, the journalist-novelist wrote an article for la Repubblica about a young woman whose body was found in a Rome garage, hanging from a noose. “I am Marco Corvino,” says Lugli, speaking about his serial protagonist, the young and dreamy crime reporter who has just begun working for a left-wing newspaper.
Massimo Lugli (Rome, 1955) began working as a journalist in 1975 for Paese Sera, and since 1985 for la Repubblica, covering crime stories, which he uses as material for his books. Says the writer: “Writing about a murder, kidnapping or shooting means describing action, blood, pathos, extreme emotions. In a word, it means writing a story.” A black belt in karate and Tai Ki Kung instructor, he has been practicing martial arts from a young age. In 2009, his novel L'istinto del lupo came in third for the Premio Strega and won the Controstregati Award.
