No short story collection here, but a long, fast-paced criminal adventure written by Lorenzo La Neve and illustrated by Spugna, under the supervision of the maestro, Silver
Pitch-dark shadows, jagged lines, and skewed perspectives perfectly capture the nature of this shambolic anti-hero. Each cartoon is an explosion of chaos: tubes leaking mysterious substances, insects that are caricatures, teetering cities where the law is more bumbling than crime. Cattivik advances like a live stain, always ready to break the law…and ever doomed to fail. Dynamite that smokes but doesn’t explode, bold strikes that are off the mark, wild plans that implode: Cattivik’s wrongdoing is stagy, childish, and irresistible. His “Ghep!” and “Splak!” become soundbites that pierce the prevailing darkness. In his distorted comedic art, Cattivik celebrates imperfection. He’s a hero of failure who turns every disaster into a show. A small, tenacious blob who keeps on trying, despite it all.
