A talk with the Caligari Prize finalists
Between films on the big screen and others on streaming platforms, plus TV series and TV movies, this year it was harder than ever to pick the Italian titles for the six-way shortlist behind the Claudio Caligari Prize for best Italian noir film of the year. Each of the finalists can boast a different shade of noir in this particular galaxy: there’s a horror film and a splatter movie, Tarantino-style, with a historical setting; there’s a terrifying vision of a dystopian future and a reworking of the crime film; then a noir built around social issues and a psychological thriller.
