In order to capture killers, the agents of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) must think like the killers. Following in the footsteps of Jodie Foster’s character in The Silence of the Lambs, the shows’ investigators are specialized in the psychology of criminal minds. Called in when there are no other ways to identify or stop a serial killer, the Unit tries to anticipate a criminal’s moves before he or she kills again. The sixth season ended with the BAU investigating human trafficking and Agent Hotchner announcing imminent changes in the team due to budget cuts. The seventh season opens with BAU members appearing individually at a Senate committee hearing for their actions following the disappearance and presumed death of Agent Emily Prentiss, but someone could unexpectedly help them to win their case and keep the squad intact.
