New government measures aimed at regulating dog-breeding in Hungary place a tax on the owners of mixed-breeds, who react by promptly dumping their mongrels in shelters, and Hagen is no exception. His 13-year-old owner Lili, whose parents are divorced, has been sent to live with her mother while her father gamely gets rid of her pet. Meanwhile, on the streets of Budapest, an army of dogs engages battle with the humans who capture them, abandon them, chain them up, drive them mad, pit them against each other for sport, and money, then put them in cages and eliminate them. And Lili could well be the one person who can stop this war between man and man's best friend. "The film can be described by mingling the words adventure, revenge, rebellion and heroism. I would like the topoi of vengeance films and the allegorical qualities of animal stories to merge in this film in a dynamic, thrilling, and undeniably emotive way." [Kornél Mundruczó]

Kornél Mundruczó (1975, Hungary) made his first feature-length film, This I Wish and Nothing More (2000) and his short Day After Day (2001) when he was still a student, winning the award for Best Film at the Hungarian Film Critics' Awards for two years in a row. In 2002, he made his proper feature directorial debut with Pleasant Days, his first feature film, awarded the Silver Leopard at Locarno in 2002. His second feature film, Johanna premiered at Cannes (Un Certain Regard) in 2005. His next film Delta was also on the Cannes 2008 lineup (FIPRESCI Prize), followed by Tender Son - The Frankenstein Project in 2010, and this year's White God, which took top honors in Un Certain Regard.
