Press conference in Rome for the 23rd Noir in Festival

The year of Friday the 13th

The program and poster of the 23rd Courmayeur Noir in Festival will be unveiled on Thursday, November 21 at 11 am, at the Palazzo Incontro in Via dei Prefetti 22 in Rome, which will be turned into a "crime scene" for the occasion, thanks to a partnership with Abc Arte Bellezza Cultura and Fandango Incontro.

In anticipation of November 21, here is a preview of some of the surprises awaiting you.

On December 13 (Santa Lucia Day, the Swedes’ favorite church holiday), the masterful Scandinavian author Henning Mankell will be presented with the Raymond Chandler Award, a veritable Nobel Prize of noir literature, given over the years to the genre’s best writers, including Leonardo Sciascia and John Le Carré, among many others.

Following the central theme chosen for our 22nd edition, "The Mafias and Us" which featured discussions by numerous illustrious guests, including Senate President Pietro Grasso this year the Festival continues its investigation of organized crime. This year’s topic, "Hands Over the City", will feature discussions moderated by Gaetano Savatteri and is dedicated to the current criminal phenomena in Italy’s two "capitals": Rome and Milan.
Our international film jury this year, which will award the Black Lion to the best title in Competition, will be made up five writers and screenwriters.

There is much anticipation for the 2013 opening film, as well as for the writers who will be gracing us with their presence every day at the Jardin de l'Ange. Marina Fabbri beams: "We can proudly say that none of the best [writers] of the moment eluded us, and we’ll also have choice ‘first-timers’ such as Enrico Vanzina, who has begun a new career as a novelist after numerous hits as a comedy screenwriter."

Last but not least, the Festival, in partnership with Istituto Luce - Cinecittà, will dedicate a special day to the genre made popular the world over by the genius of Dario Argento horror with a particular focus on the Italian indie horror scene, which is making a name for itself on the international market.
