In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, young Bilbo Baggins is approached by wizard Gandalf the Grey to join him an epic quest to reclaim the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, ruled over by the fearsome dragon Smaug. Along with the thirteen Dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin, Bilbo begins an adventurous journey through treacherous lands inhabited by Goblins, Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers, to the East and the arid lands of Lonely Mountain. Along the way, in the Goblin tunnels, Bilbo meets a creature that will forever change his life: Gollum.
Peter Jackson made his feature debut in 1987 with Bad Taste. Two years after making the animated film Meet the Feebles, he wrote and directed Splatters (1992), which screened in numerous festivals and won many awards. In 1994, Heavenly Creatures won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival and received an Oscar nod for Best Screenplay. He followed that up with The Frighteners(1996) and the acclaimed mockumentary Forgotten Silver, made on the centennial anniversary of cinema. In 1999 he began shooting J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Ringstrilogy, making for the first time in film history three epic film simultaneously. The film trilogy - The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the Ring - won numerous international awards and Oscars.
